LTER, which stands for Long-Term Ecological Research, is a network of sites with a very large spatial scale in which long-term research is carried out.

The Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO) was at the genesis of the implementation of this network of sites in Portugal and is currently responsible for publicizing and disseminating the LTER Portugal project within the Research Scientific Infrastructure, PORBIOTA.
